The Story

The addition of a new 700-seat arts center alongside the school’s main entrance requires a thoughtful, integrated site design to produce a new and consummate face of the school.

In solution, a new plaza and concourse acts as an engaging arrival court and gathering area. The pattern of paving bands serves as a unifying ‘carpet’, grounding the school’s entrance, anchoring the new arts center and providing students and visitors with a clear and readily understandable path of movement.

An bosque of trees in wells provides filtered shade for the plaza without impeding pedestrian circulation. Characteristically drought tolerant and native plantings provide beauty, interest, color and a sense of warmth to the landscape, showcasing the richness of possibilities in a low water usage landscape.
