L.A. Design Associates master planned the site for this 700 seat performing arts center for the Bonita Unified School District. Oriented obliquely, the arts center building announces itself memorably to all who approach.

The theater appears to rise up from the street and its plinth-like setting adds grandeur and drama to the arrival experience. Raised planters with tall palm trees punctuate the steps at regular intervals and the facility’s signage wall sits prominently at ‘center stage’ along the face of the project. The planned outdoor amphitheater makes natural use of the existing topography by terracing into the slope, providing seating under the stars for 100 guests.

Characteristically low maintenance, drought tolerant and native plantings provide color, beauty and sense of warmth to the landscape, showcasing the richness of possibilities in a low water consumption landscape. A grove of olive trees rises out of the landscape like emergent winds in a symphony, providing a counterpoint to the mass of the nearby building. CHPS certified.
